Strong voice of the Ministry at the Forum in Krynica

08-09-2017

The challenges facing social policy, the role of local governments in its implementation, the situation on the labour market, social capital as a basis for development or senior policy – these are just some of the issues discussed during the 27th Economic Forum by Minister Elżbieta Rafalska and deputy ministers of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy together with other guests of the event.

Many of the events that took place during this year's 27th Economic Forum in Krynica were devoted to social policy, the labour market and labour migration, social insurance and actions for seniors.

Discussions on social policy

Already on the first day of the 27th Economic Forum in Krynica, Minister Elżbieta Rafalska took part in panel discussions entitled “Social policy coordination – challenges, barriers, perspectives.”

The Head of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy pointed out that the situation on the labour market facilitates carrying out an effective family policy, which is a key element of government's social policy. “Fertility rate is related to the situation on the labour market and the economic situation of families,” Minister Rafalska said.

Family as a challenge to local governments

On the second day of the 27th Economic Forum in Krynica, Minister Elżbieta Rafalska opened the discussion panel “What do local governments need – visionaries or officials?.”

During her speech “Family as a challenge to local governments,” she emphasised the importance of local governments in the social policy of the state. They are the ones who will be implementing the government's programme “Family 500 plus,” help people in need in essential subsistence needs, they support people with disabilities in local communities and organise various forms of childcare.

Green light for workers from Ukraine

“We are still interested in hiring employees from Ukraine. The Ministry of Labour will monitor the situation on the Polish labour market after the visa liberalisation for Ukrainians in the EU,” Deputy Minister Stanisław Szwed announced at the panel discussion “Economic migrants from Ukraine on the European labour market.”

As Deputy Minister Stanisław Szwed noted, the Polish labour market is open to third country nationals, including Ukrainians.

Social capital as the foundation of development

On the second day of the 27th Economic Forum in Krynica, discussions also covered many other topics. Members of the MFLSP management took an active part in discussion panels devoted to them.

Undersecretary of State Bartosz Marczuk presented issues in the framework of the panel “Legal and institutional competition. Poland as a paradise for SMEs.”

Deputy Minister Bartosz Marczuk also discussed issues related to social capital. The panel devoted to this issue was called “Social capital as the foundation of development. Trust, creativity and cooperation in modern society.”

Social insurance

One of significant events of the 27th Economic Forum was, among others, the discussion panel organised by the daily Rzeczpospolita. It was attended by Marcin Zieleniecki, Undersecretary of State in the MFLSP.

Deputy Minister Marcin Zieleniecki discussed the social insurance system and actions of the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) related to the control of contracts of mandate.

Senior policy vs. the economy

The second and third day of the 27th Economic Forum in Krynica was also an occasion to discuss actions for seniors. These issues were presented by Elżbieta Bojanowska, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

Deputy Minister Elżbieta Bojanowska participated in the debate “Seniors in the process of demographic change. Diagnosis of the situation of the elderly. Recommended directions of changes in Poland's economic policy.” This event inaugurated the Third Age Forum.

Deputy Minister Elżbieta Bojanowska also participated in the panel “Silver Generation as the potential of Silver Economy. Secure senior – consumer in the market of products and services.”
