Since 1 January 2016, the minimum wage which an employer must pay an employee working under the employment contract will be PLN 1850. This means an increase of PLN 100 compared to 2015. Therefore, an employee earning the national minimum wage will receive about PLN 1355 net. Lower wage would constitute a violation of employee rights.
The exception to this rule is the remuneration of people who start work – in the first year, it cannot be lower than 80% of the minimum wage. Therefore, in their case the minimum wage will be PLN 1480 gross.
Other benefits also depend on the amount of the minimum wage. Anyone working between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. should receive an extra payment to the wage in the amount of 20% of the hourly wage resulting from the minimum wage. The idle time pay also cannot be less than the minimum wage. The severance pay in the case of lay-offs is also related to the minimum wage. It cannot exceed 15 times the minimum wage, so it will be PLN 27,750 gross. The minimum compensation for discrimination or mobbing will amount to PLN 1,850 gross.
Next year's minimum wage is specified in the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of
11 September 2015 on the minimum wage for work in 2016 (Dz.U. item 1385).
